October is Residents’ Rights Month

October is resident rights month, and this year’s theme is “Stand with Me.” This month, as in every month, WHCA honors residents receiving care and services in Washington skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. It is a time to celebrate each resident’s individuality and sense of self, while advocating for their right to choose, refuse, and live to their fullest potential.

Sharing residents’ voices brings to light the importance of access to quality care. A resident council toolkit can help residents who wish to gather and collectively make recommendations about their lives and the services provided in the facility where they live. WHCA has adopted a toolkit, with permission of the Texas Ombuds office, for member facilities to share with residents who wish to start a resident council or improve an existing council.
