Turning Evidence into Action: How Medicaid Payments Impact Nursing Home Outcomes

The Moving Forward Coalition is an organization that strives to increase the quality of life of individuals living and working in nursing homes. The Coalition recently hosted a webinar featuring researchers who discussed their work to understand the impact of Medicaid reimbursement rates on care quality.

Researchers from UMass Boston and Miami University have developed a unique database of per-diem rates, costs, and payment-to-cost ratios to examine links between funding adequacy and measurable outcomes, including staffing and five-star quality ratings.

Dr. Edward Miller, Dr. John Bowblis, Liz Simpson, MPH, and Dr. Marc Cohen share insights from this work, highlighting how the data can inform decision-making, especially as Medicaid cuts threaten the quality and safety of nursing home care. Check out the webinar here.
