REMINDER: New NHSN Reporting Requirements Effective January 1

The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Team hosted a webinar for long-term care facilities on December 11, 2024. The webinar covered important updates on reporting requirements for residents and healthcare personnel that will be implemented on January 1, 2025. You can access the webinar slides here.

As summary of changes is highlighted below:

Weekly Respiratory Pathogens and Vaccination (RPV) Summary Form for Residents

  • The reporting frequency for residents has not changed. Please continue reporting data each week.
  • Beginning on January 1, 2025, facilities are required to complete all questions for COVID-19, influenza, and RSV.
  • In January 2025, the new Completed Date variable will be available in NHSN (through the analysis and reporting and export .CSV file functions) to show when RPV resident summary data submission is complete. A date and time will populate for the variable once data for all required questions on the form (questions 1-4ci) have been entered and saved in NHSN.

Weekly COVID-19 Vaccination Summary Form for Healthcare Personnel

  • Please continue reporting COVID-19 vaccination data for healthcare personnel each week until January 2025.
  • In January 2025, COVID-19 Vaccination data for healthcare personnel are required to be reported for at least one week per month. You can select any week within the month.
  • The week-end date determines the month for which data are included. For example, reporting data for the week of January 27, 2025 through February 2, 2025 counts as submitting data for a week in February.
  • There are no changes to the form for healthcare personnel.
