Grassroots Update: Make Sure Legislators Get the Message
Over the past few weeks, our network of advocates has decisively told Governor Ferguson he made the wrong decisions for long-term care in his supplemental budget proposal. Now it’s time to target district representatives – send a clear message today to influence how the Legislature revises the Governor’s proposal.
We must ask Legislators, especially those in key fiscal districts, to once again hold the line on the funding they allocated last year for long-term care. Without it, providers will have to operate on rates based on 2022 costs – all while facing rising inflation, taxes and insurance increases, and progressive wage policies that drive additional annual costs. The Ferguson budget clawed back nearly $150 million in critical Medicaid resources. This creates a financial situation that is unsustainable, unjustified, and beyond unreasonable.
The WHCA team will be reaching out to facilities in those districts which can make the largest impact as we look to shape the direction of critical budgetary decisions. With deadlines in mid-February, we ask these key advocates to heed the call and help bear the torch for long-term care everywhere in our state.
