Certification Timelines Extended for Home Care Aides Affected by Wildfires
The Washington State Department of Health filed emergency rules to extend the certification timeline for eligible long-term care workers who have been impacted by the wildfires and evacuation areas under the Governor’s Proclamation 26-03.1 – Wildfires – Immediate Relief and Response declared on August 10, 2026.
On August 25, 2026, the department filed emergency rules under WSR 26-18-023 to provide additional time for eligible long-term care workers to complete the home care aide certification process. The extension applies to eligible individuals whose certification deadline falls between August 1, 2026, and November 30, 2026.
If you believe you are eligible for an extension because you have been affected by wildfires and are currently pending a home care aide certification, please complete the Washington Wildfire Emergency Request Form for Long-Term Care Workers form.
The form will collect information the department needs to review and determine eligibility. If an extension is approved, the department will update the individual’s record and notify the caregiver by email. Caregivers who are approved for an extension should continue working towards completion of all remaining certification requirements during this timeframe.
