Advance Your Knowledge and Expertise in Gerontological Nursing
AHCA/NCAL has an online training program for nurses looking to elevate their gerontological nursing care. Historically reserved only for RNs, this program has recently been opened for LPNs as well.
Recently the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Nursing compared facilities that employ GeroNursePrep nurses with those facilities who do not employ nurses who have completed this course, and discovered the following in the GeroNursePrep facilities:
- Higher RN hours per resident day (in SNF)
- Lower turnover rates among nursing assistants/caregivers, LPNs, and RNs
- Stable administrator employment
- Reduced hospital admissions
- Fewer inspection/survey deficiencies
- Better occupancy rates
This program advances nurses’ overall knowledge of common resident conditions and best practice for treatment, and improves the quality of care provided.
