IV Fluids-Conservation Strategies Needed in Response to Resource Limitations

Hurricane Helene is directing impacting resources and availability of intravenous fluids across the nation. Baxter International, the nation’s largest supplier of IV solutions, sent a letter to health systems and other customers stating they would be receiving 40% of their normal levels of supplies. However, we are currently hearing from hospital systems in Washington that their supply chain is less than 40%, and as low as 25% in some areas. Long term care facilities providing IV and other impacted fluids need to evaluate their current resources, supply chains, access, and implement conservation strategies, as necessary.
