Continuity of Case Mix Determinations

CMS discontinued support for RUG categorization for nursing facility residents effective September 30, 2023. There are a few important things for you to keep in mind:

January 2024 rates will not be affected by this discontinuation. January 2024 rates will be set using the March through September 2023 RUG data in alignment with the current SNF rate setting methodology.
The Department plans to implement the new PDPM system in some capacity beginning with the July 1, 2024 rate. The details of the implementation will not be finalized until after the Legislative session.
The Department’s overarching goal in transitioning to PDPM is to minimize negative impacts. However, please keep in mind that even with effort, some impacts – both positive and negative – are likely to occur.
