CMS Releases Updated Appendix PP of the State Operations Manual
On April 25, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued the long-awaited revisions to the State Operations Manual (SOM) Appendix PP. This updated guidance includes the revised expectations and guidelines related to the changes effective April 28, 2025. Changes included but are not limited to the following:
- Quality Assurance & Performance Improvement
- Sufficient Nursing Staff and Full Time DON Services
- Bathing & Toilet Facilities
- Mandatory Submission of Staffing information based on Payroll Data in Uniform Format
- Accuracy of Assessments
- Comprehensive Assessment After a Significant Change
- Activities of Daily Living
- Professional Standards
- Pain Management
- Infection Prevention & Control
- Chemical Restraints
- Transfer & Discharge Requirements
