Grassroots Update: State Budget Outlook

The WHCA team is head down strategizing for the 2027 legislative session. Top of mind is the state’s grim fiscal outlook that looks to worsen before it gets better. To that end, WHCA is working to engage members in building lasting relationships with targeted district legislators. With the state budget in crisis, lawmakers must find ways to ensure funding remains stable for entitlement programs, including Medicaid and Medicare services for Washington’s low-to-moderate income residents. These dollars are critically necessary on both sides of care. They uplift staff and front-line caregivers and provide access to care for older adults and those with disabilities. Threats to these services are eminent and elevated by the federal cuts that states must navigate.

To meet the challenges ahead we call on advocates throughout our membership. With every new advocate, we grow our voice and expand elected officials’ understanding of the quality long-term care delivered at member facilities across the state.
