WHCA’S New Nurse Delegation Training Resource for Registered Nurses
Nurse delegation is now situated in the top 10 citations for our care settings; it is critical that RNs delegate following the nurse practice act standards. There is currently no required training for RN delegators in assisted living; for that reason, WHCA is pleased to offer a new resource in our learning hub where RNs can enhance their knowledge of and find resources for delegation in assisted living settings.
The platform features 15 short videos on the following topics, and can be watched in any order and based on need:
- Introduction to RN delegation in assisted living
- When delegation can occur
- Who is involved in the delegation process
- What tasks can be delegated (and what tasks cannot be delegated)
- Getting resident consent for RN delegation
- How to check caregiver training and credentials
- How to determine caregiver competency in delegated tasks
- The resident assessment for RN delegation
- Methods to contact the RN delegator
- Ongoing supervision and training
- Recordkeeping methods
- Task instructions for delegated care staff
- Transferring delegation to another RN
- Rescinding delegation
- Tips and hints for successful delegation systems
WHCA has also developed sample delegation task sheets for commonly delegated tasks; these forms are in Word format for easy download and personalization by the RN delegator.
This important resource is available to any RN, whether working for a member assisted living facility or not. To access the learning hub, visit education.whca.org and discover the RN Delegation resource tab on the main page.
