Grassroots Update: How Your Voice Shapes Policy – The Power of Local Stories

Since May 2025 we have been engaging members across our great state to join our facility tours campaign. Tours of our member skilled nursing and assisted living centers have proved to be an effective avenue for telling local stories about providing and receiving quality care. They have enabled stories to be shared far and wide through tour photos and interactions between residents, staff, and members of the Legislature, and we are happy to continue our focus on educating legislators about the importance of this care.

Stories have the unique ability to ground challenges and uplift triumph through personal interactions. This makes storytelling an ideal way to leave a lasting impression about skilled nursing and assisted living care and services.

WHCA encourages our members to continue telling their stories through pictures, in-person meetings, social media, and legislator tours. With only a few months left before the 2026 legislative session, now is the time to prioritize opportunities to share your local stories. We love seeing your photos and hearing about your advocacy experiences, so be sure to follow and tag WHCA on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram when you post – and our very own Communications Coordinator, Jackie Asbury, will keep working to build engagement on your behalf through WHCA’s social media channels. Contact Aidan Swayne to learn more about how you can harness the power of local stories.
