Polystyrene Ban Extends to Food Service Products Starting June 1

The Washington plastic law, passed in 2021, will reduce the use of single-use plastics. The law has been implemented in phases. On June 1, the plastics ban is extended to expanded polystyrene products. Food services products like containers, plates, bowls, trays and cups are prohibited and cannot be used. Existing inventory may not be used after the June 1 effective date. For more information, contact Department of Ecology Waste Reduction and Recycling Specialist Lauren DiRe.
