Grassroots Update: Same Same, but Different
We’re now halfway through the 2024 legislative session, and the surviving bills have almost made it through the gauntlet of their chamber of origin.
The legislative process is designed to winnow down the list of bills at every step. For policy bills to advance, there must now be a successful vote in the Rules Committee before they can be considered by the full House or Senate in a floor vote.
After passing out of their chamber of origin, the bills must make it through hearings and votes in the policy, budget and Rules committees in the opposite chamber, followed by a floor vote. If the opposite chamber amends a bill, differences must be hashed out between the two chambers before the Governor can sign it into law.
Just like in the Superbowl, halftime is all part of the fun – and there’s still a lot of game left before it’s all over. Your continued engagement, whether through emailing legislators during session, hosting facility tours in the interim, or supporting WHCA-PAC FUNdraisers, makes all the difference. Keep an eye out for more opportunities to get involved through the end of session and beyond by reading your Capitol Update and Advocacy Exchange newsletters.
