Jun 17 2024 | Reporting Concerns About a Statement of Deficiencies

Receiving a Statement of Deficiencies (SOD) report from Residential Care Services (RCS) can be a stressful time.  To understand each component of a SOD, see the article here.  Once you have absorbed the contents of the report, WHCA staff requests you do the following:  Ask yourself:

  1. Are any of the cited regulations in this SOD misapplied or misinterpreted by the licensor/complaint investigator?
  2. If this citation stands as-is, will it have state-wide implications for other assisted living facilities as well as my own facility?

If your answer to either question is yes, then please scan and email the SOD to Vicki McNealley and request a telephone discussion with her to highlight your concerns.  With the number of new RCS field staff, field managers, regional administrators, and headquarters staff there has been a loss of internal historical knowledge on the intent and application of assisted living regulations.  WHCA staff will assist in determining next steps with maligned citations and advocate for assisted living members in ensuring the care setting remains as it was intended: a home for vulnerable adults who need additional support.
