Grassroots Update: Resident Advocate Lorraine Hines

Advocacy is always a joint venture and sometimes, if we are fortunate, we are able to share the voice of those we serve. This week, a guest opinion editorial was published in The Olympian penned by former Washington State Representative Lorraine Hines, who is also an assisted living resident in the Olympia area.

Her moving call to action highlights the value she and others find in assisted living and a graduated level of care. To her, this is the difference between feeling supported and feeling isolated for her and her husband who are both in their 90s.

Hines connected the support she has to continued commitment to protect stable investments in long-term care at the legislative level. She reminds us that the state population continues to age rapidly and that those of us who are fortunate enough to grow old- even current Legislators -may need care. Ensuring care is available tomorrow starts today, she noted.

We want to thank Lorraine for providing her voice and experience.

We are proud to support and care for extraordinary people who have made remarkable contributions to Washington. Assisted Living resident and former State Representative Lorraine Hine is the perfect example of an advocate in action. She reminds the Legislature about the importance of our work in this op-ed published in The Olympian on December 2, 2025.
