Grassroots Update: Committee Days Wrapped

Last week, WHCA’s own Lauri St. Ours and Aidan Swayne were on Capitol Hill in Olympia for annual Legislative Committee Days. Each year, fiscal and policy committees from both chambers gather at the Capitol to introduce and preview the key issues expected during session. For WHCA, it was an opportunity to build new relationships and reconnect with legislators we were unable to meet with over the interim.

Aidan Swayne also had the privilege of testifying before the Senate Health and Long-term Care Committee on the challenges facing the long-term care workforce. His presentation—developed in partnership with LeadingAge Washington—highlighted the strong connection between staffing and quality care in our state. Using a data-driven approach informed by member feedback from our pre-session survey, he represented WHCA and LeadingAge providers at the highest level and offered the Legislature a clear preview of our collective priorities. Special thanks to Bill Ulrich, Consolidated Billing Services, for his support for this work.

With a tough session ahead and a rapidly aging population, every opportunity to elevate our issues will be critical. We expect ongoing chances to highlight long-term care needs and uplift our members at the legislative level; all guided by the insights you continue to share. If you are interested in adding your voice, please reach out to Aidan Swayne for information on upcoming initiatives and advocacy trainings.
