Health Equity Continuing Education Requirements

Many Washington health care professionals must complete two hours of health equity training and maintain proof of that training for auditing purposes by the Department of Health.  For some health professionals, those competencies began with the individual’s renewal cycle in 2024 – those include nursing home administrators, licensed social workers, and dietitians and nutritionists.  These professionals must complete two hours of training every four years.

RN and LPN requirements are a bit different, however.  Licensed nurses must complete two hours every year starting at their renewal date in 2026.  Newly licensed nurses must complete two hours by their second annual renewal.

Regulations on this required training can be found here: WAC 246-12-800 through WAC 246-12-830 and for nurses, WAC 246-840-222. Additional information on health equity training requirements and documentation expectations are here: Health Equity Continuing Education | Washington State Department of Health.
